At the recently held webinar titled ‘Affordable housing post Covid-19′ , Mr Femi Adewole, the MD/CEO of Family Homes Funds called on stakeholders in the affordable housing sector to change it narrative in order to attract the right funding.
While addressing the state of housing, he drew attention to the opportunities in the sector, highlighting job creation, through manufacturing and construction as a solution to the rising unemployment in the country. He also stressed the need for a well-oiled ecosystem which will begin with diagnosing the issues, identifying the gaps and then proposing the appropriate solutions.
The webinar, organised by the Housing Development Advocacy Network also had other professionals propose solutions to the current crisis faced by the industry.
Architect Jumoke Akinwumi identified the increasing importance of housing on health, stressing on the need to identify and adjust accordingly to the significant changes that may occur. Rev Chime, the former chairman of the Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria (REDAN) emphasized the need for policies that will support the growth of the housing sector as his successor, Alhaji Wammako urged the private sector to participate fully.
The Covid-19 crisis has had a profound effect on the housing sector; emphasizing the significance of affordable housing while at the same time displacing normal work routines. Many stakeholders have begun to find ways or working together to ensure business continuity after the crisis.
