Valuing FHFL Social Impact in Kaduna with over 3,100 Jobs, 568 Homes

June 21, 2023

Last month marked the second work anniversary for Israel Bulus at Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) project site in Kaduna state. The past two years have been a rewarding experience; challenging and fulfilling at the same time for the civil engineer.

Since 2019, Israel, among thousands of others, has been working to help achieve Family Homes Funds’ goal of providing over 568 homes that will be decent and affordable for low-income earners in Kaduna state. With most of the homes now ready for new families, the project site in Gidan Iyali has become a full-scale employment hub for more than 3,100 workers in the state.

‘’Two years ago, I was lucky enough to be hired at this Family Homes Funds project, and it has practically changed my life, and that of my family. I can also say the same for the lives and families of others working here. Now, with this experience, I am looking forward to more engaging years to come,’’ he said.

Sometimes a little nudge is all you need to move forward in life, which is why Family Homes Funds is creating a sustainable legacy of investment that provides homes for the average families, and jobs for thousands of qualified citizens.

With over 11,615 homes either completed or in the process, Family Homes Funds projects in several states across the country like Delta, Nasarawa, Ogun, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and others have employed at least 64,000 workers – directly and indirectly.

The company’s affordable housing projects provide jobs for contractors, developers, engineers, site supervisors, admin staff, property managers, artisans, masons, plumbers, electricians, iron benders, foremen, gardeners, laborers, cleaners, tillers, storekeepers, security guards, food vendors, suppliers, and other products and service providers tied to the construction sites.

Since commencement of the project in Kaduna, Family Homes Funds Social Impact Tracker shows that at different stages, over 3,100 workers rendering all sorts of supportive services have been engaged directly and indirectly.

Beyond the economic advantage of benefitting from jobs like these, they also contribute to the quality-of-life people live, and how their relationship with the society improves. This fact is very well confirmed by the story of Israel.

‘’Seeing how I got here made me realize how much I have been through. How I have changed, and how those changes have made me a better person than who I was before.

‘’Working here and interacting with other young people has built me as a person. I have been able to finally beat two of my worst habits. I am at a place where I can pursue my passion while making a real impact in people’s life. Knowing that these homes will go to poor people like my parents also gives me a great sense of fulfilment,’’ Israel says of his work experience and the impact it has had.

For a fact, nothing beats the personal fulfilment that comes from gainful employment and being able to meet daily and future needs. It is personal stories like these that inspire Family Homes Funds to do more and spread these developments to every corner of Nigeria.

Before the end of 2021, the company plans to finance the development of about 50,000 more homes for low-income earners like civil servants, traders, and members of cooperatives.

As these developments happen, more jobs are guaranteed, and more economic activities like manufacturing and sales of building material will take place – creating a chain of transaction that inevitably stimulates the country’s economy.
