Changing Lives, Renewing Hope: 100 Widows Become Homeowners in Kaduna
‘I have come with my bag; me and my four children are sleeping in the new house today!’ - Joy Aminu.
Excitement and relief filled the air in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, as 100 widows received keys to their new homes, marking a transformative moment for families who have long awaited stability and dignity. The milestone, achieved on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, is part of the Federal Government’s social housing initiative implemented by Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Drawn from vulnerable, underprivileged households, the beneficiaries received both house keys and allocation letters to newly completed units, becoming proud homeowners in a project that stands as the first of its kind under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The initiative aims to expand access to decent housing for disadvantaged Nigerians nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of FHFL, Abdul Mutallab Muktar, congratulated the new homeowners, urging them to embrace proper home maintenance. “These keys represent more than physical structures—they represent opportunity, stability, and the foundation upon which you can build a better future for your families. We trust that these homes will bring comfort, security, and pride,” he said. He further disclosed that similar developments are progressing in Ibadan and Calabar.
To strengthen long-term livelihoods, FHFL also provided business training and starter packs, enabling the widows to launch or expand small enterprises—a support system designed to ensure sustained economic independence.
The Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Housing Development, Shehu Salisu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to broadening such impactful interventions. Dr. Umma Sani, CEO of Adashe Women Housing and Empowerment Society, highlighted the funding and implementation partnership that made the project possible.
Laughter and gratitude echoed across Rigachikun, as a new community takes shape, one built on hope, resilience, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
