FHFL Commissions 50 Energy-Efficient Homes for Wives of Fallen Heroes in Ibadan

October 08, 2026

A new chapter in Nigeria’s commitment to honouring the sacrifice of its fallen heroes was marked today, Tuesday, 29 September 2026, as Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), in partnership with Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), commissioned 50 units of two-bedroom detached, energy-efficient bungalows in Idi-Ape, Akobo, Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State. The homes are dedicated to the wives of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

FHFL’s Role: From Concept to Completion
The project profile was presented by FHFL which provided an overview of the development process, from inception to completion. It highlighted the application of Alternative Building Technology (ABT) in the construction of the homes and the process involved in delivering the completed units.
The project brings together three important dimensions of housing development: affordability, sustainability and social impact. Designed with energy-efficient features, the homes are intended to promote sustainability, reduce energy consumption and provide beneficiaries with a comfortable and dignified living environment.

The Impact on Beneficiaries
The most memorable moment of the ceremony came with the presentation of keys. As the wives of the fallen heroes received the keys to their new homes, joy filled the venue, visible, unrestrained and deeply moving. For these women, each key opens far more than a door. It opens security, dignity and stability, and gives their families a renewed sense of hope.

FHFL Reaffirms Commitment Beyond Housing

Representing the Managing Director/CEO of FHFL, Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, the Executive Director, Operations, Dr. Henry Nnegbu, delivered a compassionate address at the ceremony. He emphasised that the project represents more than the construction of physical structures: each home gives a family a safe and stable place to live, while preserving the memory and legacy of the men who gave their lives in service to the nation.

He reaffirmed FHFL’s commitment to supporting the beneficiaries beyond the provision of housing, noting the organisation’s plans to support the widows with skills development and livelihood opportunities to enhance their capacity for self-sustainability.

Partners and Stakeholders Stand with the Families
The commissioning ceremony brought together key stakeholders, government representatives, military authorities, development partners and members of the public to celebrate the completion of the project. The Managing Director of PHDL delivered the welcome address, expressing appreciation to the guests and members of the public for their presence. The event was also attended by representatives of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adewolu Ladoja.

The housing units were formally commissioned on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, by the General Officer Commanding, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda. In his address, he reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to supporting initiatives that provide housing and other forms of assistance to the families of fallen heroes, in recognition of their patriotic service and sacrifice. The commissioning served as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting the families left behind by personnel who paid the ultimate price in service to Nigeria.

Advancing Housing Delivery Through Partnership
The project was widely appreciated by stakeholders as a significant intervention in addressing Nigeria’s housing needs, particularly for vulnerable families and low- and middle-income Nigerians. It further underscores FHFL’s commitment to reducing the housing deficit and expanding access to quality, affordable and sustainable housing through strategic partnerships.

Through initiatives such as this, FHFL continues to demonstrate that housing delivery can serve as a powerful instrument for social development, providing not just shelter, but opportunities for families to build resilience and look towards a more secure future.
50 homes. 50 families. One enduring tribute to sacrifice and service.
