On Thursday, the 3rd of September 2026, after sustained engagement and strategic alignment between both institutions, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), a special-purpose incorporated company serving as the platform through which the Federal Government is financing the construction of affordable housing units across Nigeria and enabling long-term mortgage finance to qualified beneficiaries.
At Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), our mandate is centred on expanding access to affordable and sustainable housing for Nigerians. The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), on the other hand, is focused on expanding access to reliable and sustainable electricity. Recognising the strong alignment between these mandates, FHFL and REA have formalised their commitment to collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at exploring opportunities where housing and energy solutions can work together to improve lives and build better communities.
A key area of this partnership is the opportunity to integrate energy solutions into housing from the design and development stage. Through this collaboration, we can explore ways of delivering homes that are not only affordable, but also energy-efficient, sustainable and better prepared for the future.
Our growing focus on student housing also presents significant opportunities for collaboration, particularly around tertiary institutions covered under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phases 1 and 2. This creates an opportunity to explore how affordable student accommodation can be developed alongside reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure, creating better learning and living environments for students.
The partnership also opens avenues for exploring opportunities under the E-HEART programme, as well as potential grid-extension interventions through REA’s Technical Services team. For FHFL, this MoU represents more than a partnership between two institutions. It reflects a shared commitment to a more integrated approach to infrastructure development, where housing and energy are considered together rather than as separate interventions.
Different mandates. Shared vision. One goal: improving the quality of life for Nigerians.
