The Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s government for its affordable housing programmes that are being implemented by the Family Homes Funds Limited across the country.
The governor who made the commendation when Board Members of the Family Homes Limited paid him a courtesy visit in Bauchi said that the Federal Government deserves some accolades for supporting the Family Homes Funds’ drive to enable homeownership for Nigerians on low to middle income.
According to Governor Mohammed, the housing sector policies by the Federal Government and the operations of Family Homes Funds has assisted several state governments in tackling the persistent housing shortage problem in their states.
“We really appreciate this condolence visit from Family Homes Funds. The Family Homes has become a household name in Bauchi, and we are very happy with you and by extension very happy with Mr. President for bringing this initiative that is reducing the housing deficit in Nigeria, especially in Bauchi.
“The Family Homes Funds projects are assisting states to connect with the Federal Government in reducing challenges in the housing sector,” he said.
The governor further expressed his satisfaction with the kind of partnership that Bauchi state has established with the Family Homes Funds and their interest in furthering the relationship. The governor said that building strong partnerships is very critical for the kind of development that they are seeking for the state, which is also in line with the vision of Family Homes Funds.
In Bauchi state, the Family Homes Funds has supported the development of 1,443 homes across several locations in the state, creating an opportunity for civil servants, artisans, and other workers on low to middle income to own a home. The project has also enabled the creation of up to 17,316 jobs for artisans, suppliers and several service providers tied directly and indirectly to the project supply chain.
Speaking on behalf of the Board Members of FHFL, Ambassador Muhammadu Jumba thanked the state Governor and his government for enabling a conducive environment for the Family Homes Funds to implement the Federal Government’s affordable housing programme in the state, and for the benefit of those with great needs for homeownership. He also commiserated with Governor Bala Mohammed over the death of his mother-in-law and wished him the fortitude to bear the great loss.
Also commenting on the impact of FHFL in the state, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hamisu Mu’azu Shira expressed gratitude to the Family Homes Funds and its Board Members for not only implementing the affordable housing projects in the state but for also taking their time to visit the state and to condole with the Governor at his time of grief.
Hamisu Shira said the visit is a testament to the great working relationship existing between the state government and the Family Homes Funds.
The Family Homes Funds is a social housing fund promoted by the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of its Social Intervention Programme to support the provision of affordable housing for a very important category of citizens – those on low to middle income.
FHFL is currently working with State Governments and private developers across the country to facilitate the construction of affordable homes for this category of people. The Fund has now completed 5,408 homes across eight states, with 9,148 under construction, and another 13,543 commencing building works before December 2021. FHFL is also implementing the Nigeria government’s National Social Housing Programme (NSHP) that will provide up to 300,000 homes and lead to the creation of 1.5 million jobs across the country.
