Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) – Nigeria’s largest supporter of affordable housing, and Gombe State Government have closed on financing and commenced construction of a new project delivering 600 homes in the state.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 for the construction of the 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes across two locations –Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, Dadinkowa, and Former NNPC New Layout, Opposite Habu Hashidu Housing Estate, along Western Bye Pass Road.
Upon completion, the project will create affordable home ownership for families on low-income including civil servants, market women, artisans, and other groups of marginalized people with great need for housing.
Developed with a full range of infrastructure including health care centers, schools, markets, and recreation areas, the project will provide comfort and security for residents to thrive as a community.
In addition to the homes, the project will create at least 2,200 jobs (professional, skilled, and unskilled workers). Further impact on the local economy is expected due to a requirement for the projects to prioritize the use of local materials.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of Family Homes Funds said:
‘’This programme is being implemented under the National Mass Housing Programme, an initiative of the Federal Government to improve the quality of life of Nigerians on low income and create much needed jobs for local people. We are delighted to be collaborating with Gombe State Government to help 600 families own their homes at a price they can afford. We continue to seek partnership with other State Governments and private developers to ensure equitable spread of the programme.’’
Editor’s note
As a result of several militating factors including poor funding, most of the states in Nigeria face serious challenges with adequate and affordable housing for much of the low-income population.
Family Homes Funds, established by the Federal Government of Nigeria is intervening in this regard through affordable housing investment to also help reduce poverty by strengthening the capacity of the market and the partners.
This investment and partnership – the latest of FHFL’s numerous commitments – mark an important step towards the government’s mission to deliver up to 300,000 new homes for Nigerians with the most need for them, especially the most vulnerable groups including older and disabled people with support needs.
FHFL has now completed over 14,000 homes across twelve states, with a strong pipeline of over 10,000 homes. These affordable housing developments have created more than 80,000 direct and indirect jobs, helped attract businesses to the areas, and built local wealth.
